Resumo

This text is an approach to the artistic practice of Maria Nordman through a specific project: the work For a New City (Serralves Museum Ɛ a Working Farm), created in Porto, in 2001. It synthesizes themes and concerns present in her work since the late sixties, such as, for example, the participation of the viewers (a term that, as we will see, she rejects and reformulates), the relationship with the city and nature, the role of sunlight, or the idea of a work understood as an infinite process; contrary to all objectification. We will pay attention to her previous trajectory, especially the works directly related to the one in Porto, we will describe the context in which this work is located, we will analyze its creative process, and interpret its meaning for the art and culture of our time.
