Abstract

Different interpretations and descriptions found in academic grammars published since the twentieth century on certaintemporal and aspectual contents assigned to the Spanish verb forms are reviewed in this article. It is noted that grammatical descriptions are not always appropriate and that, still in the most recent academic grammar, some aspectual characterizations will be proposed that, first, disregard the reality of specific uses of certain forms and, on the other hand, are concomitant with temporal characterizations, not constituting an evidence in favor of the independent functionality of aspect in the nucleus of the Spanish verbal system
