Abstract
One of the central aims of neuropsychology, as scientific discipline, is to endow the professionals of a theoretical base, based on scientific evidences, of how cognitive processes take place, their possible alterations, and when it is possible, intervention to rehabilitate or to compensate deficits. Bearing in mind that the study of brain-behaviour relations and the clinical application of this knowledge to the problems are inseparable, in the USC Faculty of Psychology, we have been working in the description of neuropsychological functioning of patients with different illness that concern the SNC as Alcoholism, Drug use, AIDS, Dementia and neurodegenerative diseases, cerebro-vascular disease, as well as in the study of normal aging. This line of work helps to better understand the neuropsychological implications associated with a certain neurological pathologies, and allows to offer information of interest that can and must be born in mind at the moment of designing intervention and prevention programs, in the personal, sanitarily and socially areas.
