Resumo

The progressive aging of societies has stimulated an increase in research on technologies for the care of the elderly. This has resulted in a wide range of technological solutions that have penetrated the daily life of the elderly. In this article, we wonder about the consequences on gender relations of introducing these technological devices, being the orbit of care a traditionally feminized domain. For this purpose, we conducted a systematic exploratory review and a critical review of the literature from a gender perspective. This approach results in the identification of a pronounced androcentric bias in the design environments of the technologies, a tendency towards equal participation in the study samples, a disparity of results in terms of technological acceptance and uses by gender, a clear feminization of the functions of the devices intended for the care of the elderly, and few examples of the gender impact of the introduction of care technologies. The discussion revolves around strategies to reduce the gender gap in STEM areas Science, Technology, Engineering y Mathematics), such as the environment where care technologies are developed, co-creative design with equal participation of men and women, or the lack of gender perspective in the biomedical and technological publications analyzed. Finally, it is proposed to incorporate lines of research that consider the impact on gender relations of the introduction of technological developments in care for the elderly.
