Resumo

The work is developed in three parts. The first focuses on the Pilgrim’s Guide (GP) of the Codex Calixtinus,on its position and meaning in the compilation that contains it, as well as on the evolutionthat its different parts underwent until reaching the final composition. The second part focuses onthe importance of the Roman road system in ancient and medieval pilgrimages, without the Santiagopilgrimage being an exception to this rule. In the third, it is reviewed, precisely through the GP,the detours made from the Via Aquitaine to create an alternative especially designed for pilgrims:the Via Francigena or French Way.
