Resumen

This article proposes a reassessment of the archaeological remains around the supposed Tomb of Santiago the Great and its possible engagement with the archaeological and historical context of the Swabian kingdom and in particular the conflict that led to its absorption by the Visigoth kingdom. A new framework is opened for the interpretation of the Jacobean enigma defined by the arrival of relics from the Holy Land to the West between the fifth and sixth centuries, mediated by the political-religious conflicts in Hispania of that time, and, finally, obscured by the ideological process of consolidation of the Visigoth kingdom of Toledo and its dominance in the High Medieval period.
