Zusammenfassung

The doctoral thesis studies the concept of “dies de taula” (in English known as Communion Days), in the 16th and 17th century in Ciutat de Mallorca, which reflects the normativity of public celebrations, based in a deep analysis of the manuscript Cerimonial de l’arxiu (1541-1686), an essential source for the study of modern age ceremonial. Regarding the Communion Days, the thesis highlights the importance of the figure of the seventh councillor of the “Universitat” (local government), an unknown municipal charge which vital for the ceremonial development and, on the other hand, the “taula dels jurats” (“councillors board”), a ceremonial panel in which the Communion Days are graphically represented. Communion Days and the ceremonial panel are compared to other examples from the national and international context. About historical and artistical features, the celebrations’ artistic components are analysed separately, using the five senses as a common thread, although incising of their multisensorial and total artwork character. Finally, Communion Days are treated one by one, taking into consideration their artistic features and historical evolution, reflecting on their condition of non-material cultural heritage. The full transcription of the source Cerimonial de l’arxiu is included as an appendix, accessible in the PDF file through the links in the references.
