Resumen
The presence of emerging pollutants (EC) in wastewater poses a risk to the receiving environments and need to be tackled in the wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The factors influencing the removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs), the most known group of EC, in biological treatments have not been fully elucidated yet. In this thesis, the biotransformation of OMPs in anoxic conditions is analyzed focusing on the influence of both the metabolic and the microbiology factors of the microbial community. Additionally, the relationship between the presence of antibiotics in the influent of biological reactor and the development of the antibiotic resistance determinants is also assessed since antimicrobial resistance is currently one of the major issues for the human health.
