‘I know what is best for you better than you do’cross-cultural evidence of the association between Monopoly on Truth and extremism

Zusammenfassung
El extremismo político representa una amenaza colectiva en las sociedades abiertas y democráticas, un peligro que ha aumentado en épocas recientes. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es probar un nuevo constructo, el Monopolio de la Verdad (MoT), analizando su asociación con actos extremistas ilegales y violentos en un estudio transcultural. Con este fin, la asociación entre el MoT y el extremismo ha sido evaluada en Brasil, Colombia y en España (N = 785). Los resultados respaldan la invarianza configural y métrica de la escala MoT, apoyando la validez del constructo. Los datos obtenidos reproducen también la validación original, mostrando una relación curvilínea entre ideología y MoT. Crucialmente, el análisis correlacional muestra que el MoT está asociado con el extremismo en todos los países que participan en el estudio, incluso al controlar la ideología. Esta investigación contribuye a la literatura de los fundamentos psicológicos del extremismo, introduciendo un correlato nuevo a la acción política ilegal y violenta, basado en una noción de superioridad moral y sin sesgo con respecto a la ideología.
