Resumen

This paper aims at providing some pieces of information about the evolution of the woodlands management in Galicia since 1850. As we know, in the decade of 1880 the first managements were carried out in the Spanish woodlands. These works were inspired by sylvicultural principles of German origine. The extension of the management to the Spanish woodlands was a process more or less slow and with ups and downs. It was also subject to shortage of funds and personnel. In the case of Galicia, the begining of the management took place time after, it was not before the decade of 1950 when the sylvicultural principles began to be applied to Galicia woodlands. Indeed, this particularity was due to a addition of different factors that caused this delay. In any case, the study of the projects carried out and of their results is necessary for knowing their positive and negative side and for being able of projecting a sustainable management in the future. For this it is necessary, too, to know an inventory as complete as possible of all the management projects carried out.
