Resumo

The memoirs of Ariel Dorfman pay special attention to the author’s processes of language acquisition, language loss and language recovery during his numerous exiles. These texts can therefore be considered as “language memoirs” or “translingual self-writing”. In addition, they are in large part determined by the figure of the language double, which articulates descriptions of multiple, language-dependent personalities, as well as different strategies for staging duplicity through self-translation and textual disposition. The present article, drawing on the studies on the bilingual self by Grosjean, Klosty Beaujour and Pavlenko, will seek to analyze the ways in which the figure of the double structures Ariel Dorfman’s memoirs.
