Resumo
A case of facial emphysema secondary to a dental prophylaxis is presented. The emphysema did not extended to the cervical or mediastinal regions, and overinfection did not happen. According to the literature review, the most severe complications of emphysema secondary to dental procedures are respiratory tract compromise, and swelling of anatomic spaces. Follow-up of the patient and antibiotherapy are recommended, but hospitalization cannot be ruled out in some cases.
