Resumen
Galician villages' downtowns have suffered various renovation and urban regeneration processes in the past years in order to reverse the degradation that could be found in terms of demographic, economic, landscape or mobility. These processes have not only affected urban centers with historical past and historical areas, but also appear in some more recent towns and whose strong growth and lack of planning has generated problems at the urban level. The objective of the study is to know the causes that induce these regeneration processes, how they are carried out, what instruments are used and what are the main results of the process. For that, four concrete cases of villas are studied, two historical and two recently created, distributed on the coast and in the interior of Galicia. Applying an innovative analysis methodology, we capture the residential, commercial, cultural and tourist dynamics of the centers of each one of the cases and we contrast the results. Through this process, the typology of the village centers in Galicia, according to their functions, is characterized. Identifying their weaknesses and strengths.
