Zusammenfassung

This article deals with the function and meaning of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in Spanish Golden Age Theatre. Lope de Vega's play and Tirso de Molina's auto sacramental are both entitled The Labyrinth of Crete and use this myth as a source. In addition, Calderón's auto, El laberinto del mundo, and the second act of Los tres mayores prodigios, by the same dramatist, are based on the myth. In these works, the legend is adapted to the cultural codes of the Spanish 17th century and transfonned to conform to the characteristics of the different theatrical genres.
