Abstract
In the art of the last years there often appear deformed portraits (of women and homosexual artists) as an introduction to the subjects of the genre and the identity. This article tries to investigate in the roots of the phenomenon, both from the history of art and from the theoretical aproaches of the feminism, which point at a “third route” in the representation of the genre. The conclusion seems to be that the deformation and the grotesque, applied to the own face, are indicative of a aim of critique of the codes of representation made from the domestic or intimate context, and this operation sinks his roots in the popular before that of the high culture
