Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyse the indirect effects of neighbourhood disorder on juvenile antisocial behaviour through the mediation of personality traits. A sample of 406 young people between 14 and 21 years old, 82.7% males, from 29 juvenile centres of Spain was used. Neighbourhood disorder, impulsiveness, narcissism, callous-unemotional traits, and antisocial behaviour were evaluated with scales of VRAI protocol. Correlation analysis and structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis were carried out to analyse data. The results of correlation analysis showed that all variables were significantly related. The results of SEM analysis showed a better fit of the mediation model. Thus, significant mediation effects of neighbourhood disorder on antisocial behaviour through impulsiveness, narcissism and callousunemotional traits were found. These mediated effects through the personality traits suppose a higher influence on adolescent antisocial behaviour than the direct effects of neighbourhood disorder. The implications of results for prevention, risk assessment and risk management in juvenile offenders were discussed.
