Ciudades rotas. La reconstrucción de Avola y Noto después del terremoto siciliano de 1693.

Zusammenfassung

One of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of Italy was the one in Sicily in 1693. There were many affected cities, an aspect that implied its reconstruction with innovative interventions which turned the island into an architecture laboratory. This article focuses on the analysis of the procedures adopted in the reconstruction of two singular examples: Noto and Avola. Its study has been possible thanks to the consultation of sources of the time, especially chronicles, plastic representations and correspondence maintained between different authorities. From its interpretation it has been possible to attribute its design to the architect Fra Angelo Italia, as well as to identify a series of characteristics that make them prototypes of the anti-seismic architecture of modern age.
