Resumo
The Hospital Real of Santiago de Compostela is a key building of Galician art. When it was founded, in 1499, it was an innovative and pioneering project that defended a new concept of caring for the sick and assisting the underprivileged, the woman and the poor within the Renaissance city. Over the years, it became the hospital institution of reference for the region, but with the medical advances the building was becoming obsolete and the authorities decided to build a hospital ex-novo, outside walls and rehabilitate the old building for a new use. It was a risky decision, but it ensured the preservation of the property and the possibility of continuing to play a role, in this case hostelera, as the Parador de los Reyes Católicos. In this study we propose to make an approach to the high artistic moment that the Hospital lived in the sixteenth century, when the main renaissance workshops worked in the building.
