Abstract
The Mountain Pass of Leitariegos is one of the earliest routes between the regions of Asturias and Leon. An ancient Roman via is well documented, and it was possibly created on a prehistoric path. Medieval sources have also proved the use of the Pass, which was built on a inhospitable area that managed to survive thanks to royal support and the excellent quality of its pastures.
