Abstract
The Doctoral Thesis is the first exhaustive study of the artistic aspects of the Jeronimo�s monastery in Extremadura, from its origins to the present. Based on unpublished documents, the study is conducted to the constructive and architectural evolution of the Monastery of Yuste and the Palace of Charles V, providing new information to already published on the latter and reviewing issues regarding the circumstances of its origin, its architectural development and its symbiosis with the monastery. We also perform an analysis of the artistic furniture that has historically existed in the monastery from documentary sources, while we also keeps track of the pieces that came out of it because of the disentailment of the XIX century, locating and identifying those found in other nearby towns. The study of the artistic heritage of the Monastery of Yuste furniture is starring the altarpiece realized by Anthony of Segura in memory of Charles V and order by Philip II. We performed a reading of this work in relation to the Imperial Pantheon and the �vanitas Carolina�. The thesis also holds the story of the restoration of the property, analyzing the different interventions that have taken place since the late XIX century to the present. Museological plans of the Monastery of Yuste and the Palace of Charles V, and the cultural, tourism and institutional aspects of these building along the XX and XXI centuries, occupy the final chapters of the thesis.
