Abstract
This thesis examines the mural art of the polyhedral artist Luis Seoane (1910-1979) within the context of his overall plastic and literary creation. Its main objective is to analyse the status of this discipline in the artist’s complex and diversified creative universe. Based on an overarching principle adopted by the artist himself, this corpus is regarded as including not only his murals and previous projects, but also stained glass and tapestries, primary material provided in the different inventories. On the basis of an eclectic methodology, this thesis shall contextualize Seoane by focusing on the broad aptitude and versatility of his diverse production. Confronting and contextualizing Seoane’s muralistic ideas in relation to the general panorama of 20th century muralism, his productions are assessed and their importance and uniqueness are highlighted. Finally, given the interartistic synthesis that exists in Seoane's work, the different transitive and reciprocal relations of these mural works with his literature and essays and subsequently in the conceptual and thematic context of his artistic and plastic production are identified. Seoane’s muralism is therefore criticised in terms of its perfect reciprocal and transitory coherence with his other works, whilst highlighting its central position in the entirety of his artistic works.
