Resumo

During the last years, public administrations have been stimulating the achievement of quality in higher education. As a result, financial support from public administration was subject to fulfill of some objectives measured by simple indicators. This situation makes opportune an update of a catalogue of specific indicators for the evaluation of the quality of the university system and his adaptation to the European Space of Higher Education. In this context, the design of a theoretical framework that allows integrating in a coherent way these simple indicators in a synthetic one becomes critical in order to show a global image of the university system. The later raises a relevant issue: the relative importance of every simple indicator in the construction of the composite. This paper introduces a synthetic index to finance the universities of a public system.
