Abstract

Pituitary incidentalomas are lesions found on image techniques performed for a reason other than suspicion of pituitary pathology. They are usually pituitary adenomas, less than 1 cm. For the evaluation of these lesions, it is necessary to perform a detailed clinical history, physical examination and hormonal evaluation to detect both hypofunction and hormonal hypersecretion. Magnetic resonance is the test of choice for diagnostis. Assessment of visual field is also necessary. Treatment of functioning tumors is surgery except in prolactinomas. The management of non-functioning tumors should be individualized, considering size and visual impairment.
