Luminosidadla luz al final del túnel (LHC)

Resumo

The LHC (Large Hadron Collider at CERN-Geneve) will be working again in the last weeks of 2009. When in total operation, LHC generates the greatest amount of information that has ever been produced in an experiment before, revealing some of the most fundamental secrets of nature. Despite the enormous amount of information available about this topic, it is not easy for non-specialists to know where the data comes from. We have already introduced some of the LHC physics topics, Cid [1, 2, 3], and the aim of this article is to take to Secondary School classroom one of its most important parameters: luminosity. Furthermore, we include other interesting informations on this crucial experiment. The calculations that you will be finding in this article are adapted for the Physics of Secondary School and in most cases they are just very simple approaches to the correct results.
