Abstract
We present the results of the monitoring and inventory of the edaphic-hygrophilous high-mountain vegetation of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano. This work forms part of a general analysis currently being conducted of its vegetation as whole. This was done by identifying the topographically optimal places sustaining hygrophilous plant communities of the substrate and its recent formation, as well as its altitude, favours the dominance of different climacics and serial communities of subalpine grasses (zacatonales). Following the phytosociological methodology, 29 relevés were made at an altitude of between 3800 and 4300 m. The analysis and the corresponding... (Leer más) floristic and ecological differences allowed us to recognize and propose two communities corresponding to the syntaxa Poo villaroelii-Oreomyrrehtum tolucanae and Carici peucophilae-Cotuletum mexicanae. Aspects relating to composition, ecology, distribution, soil requirements and catenal-position dynamics are considered and discussed for each community.
