Abstract
This article tries to underline the differences between the initial justifications of the coup d ́etat of July the 18th 1936 and the later development after the planned seizure of power. This manicheist discourse, which has survived til our days, casts its shadow over the definition of the context of the government of the Popular Front and, more globally, the Second Republic as a whole. Both historical phases, Second Republic and Civil War, are intentionally linked in the Francoist discourse in order to achieve legitimacy after their victory in the battlefields.
