Abstract
This paper describes the mortgage markets in the European Union. Our aim is to highlight the major factors that led to the broad and varied european mortgage markets. First, we reviewed the mortgage debt relevance in the european economies and the mutual influence of the mortgage debt and the housing tenure structure. After, we analysed the main financial diver-gences between the european mortgage markets, the financial institutions, the sources of hou-sing finance and the mortgage products. To conclude we examined the potencial impact that the factors of change will have on future development
