Abstract
It is argued, through a few crucial examples, that children work on their own linguistic schemas, which they modify, and that they are sensitive to the strictly linguistic information in that constructive process. Later, errors are presented here that indicate processes which show the inadequacy of sociocommunicative explanation. Other examples, such as the building of word categories, gender agreement, and narrative coherence, show that children take into account intralinguistic cues in their attempts to master language. This constitutes an area of experience that arouses childrens interest and intellectual effort.
