Resumo
Spain is at the forefront of the telecommunications infrastructure in Europe. It�s widely accepted that digital media has experienced significant growth in recent years, but where has this growth come from? The use of digital media has tripled since 2010. It has also experienced a rise of more than 30% since 2013. Smartphones have contributed to more than 90% of this growth. Time spent checking digital media on a smartphone is relatively superior as compared to desktop computers. Apps, which we use to turn our digital environment into our day-to-day life, continue to grow as a sector. Reports about apps usage in Spain confirm that messaging apps continue to be the most downloaded and used by Spaniards. A new stage in mobile communications will begin with the second decade of the third millennium. The so-called �Internet of things� places the focus on smart watches as the new must have �these devices integrate various functionalities existing in the connectivity spectrum, with the internet as the main reference. The main actors in the media environment did not want to miss out on the possibilities of this new platform and are experimenting with the creation of content to make true the dreams that exist in all platforms and devices. The aim of this article is to offer a general view of the mobile communication evolution in the last six years. It will start with the technical reports published by the Telefonica Foundation, the WAN (World Association of Newspapers) and the Pew Research Centre, amongst others. Such analysis will be complemented with a bibliographic review the objective of which is to study the mobile journalism in the chosen period.
