Zusammenfassung
In her autobiography, Mother María Antonia Pereira, OCD (1700-1760) states that, not having had access to a formal education, she taught herself to read and write. She adds that she learnt Latin in the same fashion, by perusing the "Roman Breviary". While not wishing to doubt this portentous achievement, this paper discusses other cases of intuitive literacy.
