Resumo

The discharge to reservoirs in near-natural hydrological basins were evaluated in theIberian Peninsula (PI) using the MONWIRES database. In this study, the trend of 42series of discharge and precipitation were analysed in headwaters basins distributedby the entire IP, on a winter scale. The results show important reductions in most ofthe basins, reaching -6 hm3/yr in some cases. Likewise, these negative trend estimateswere associated with changes in winter precipitation, especially in the western IP.In addition, increases/decreases of water store in reservoirs were studied. So, differentscenarios based on the level of discharge were analysed. From 1952 to 2017, the mostfrequent scenario was severe meteorological drought (<20% of the reservoirs increasedtheir water reserve). Likewise, this recharge mode was specially correlated with the ElNino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), but not significantly. In case of all scenarios, NAOand AO indices mainly contributed to predict the changes in hydrological reserve of IP.Thus, this work shows the recent variability of the discharge in the Iberian near-naturalhydrological basins, which can be useful in the planning of policies for the mitigationand adaptation of water management to global warming.
