Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the importance that the sheep farmers give to the conditioning factors of the milking sheep production systems. The information has been obtained from 80 surveys made at the province of León (Spain), carried out in November of 2006. The surveys were grouped in function of ewe’s number in: < 350, from 360 to 650 and more than 700. More than 75% of the sheep farms are involved in a cooperative structure. More than 85% of the farms possess Assaf breed. The proportion of farms plan to increase the flock size is higher in the big flock size group and more than 50% of the sheep farmers plan to maintain the current size of its flocks. UTH of the farms and the ewes/UTH increased when making it the flock size. The percentage of farms possesses salaried manpower and that have succession it is bigger in the big flock size group. The factors related with the mechanization of tasks, the ownership to a cooperative, the technical advice and the possibility to have access in the market of ewes and rams with guarantees is considered of great importance by most of the sheep farmers.
