Abstract

We present a Service-learning experience, developed during the last 4 years, consisting in advanced computer management services in several destinations inside the University of Santiago de Compostela. This services, ofabout 25 working hours, are developed in the contect of the optional subject Advanced management of systems and networks, in the 3rd course of the Degree in Computer engineering. The student’s training is achieved by developing, in real environments, computer managing tasks which are interesting to the subject contents. Most destinations have an advanced computing profile, namely the office of Free Software of the galicianInteruniversitary Consortium and the Centre for research in Information Technology at the USC, including services as the development of a Q&A website, application web servers, software metapackage managers forthe linux operative system, among others. This is a very appealing activity for the students, which develop very interesting services with high usefulness for the service destinations.
